


Short autobiography of Jim Skinner
I was born and raised in Jacksonille, FL. Entered the US Marine Corps on 3Mar43 and retired
31Dec71. My boot camp was Parris Island, SC. Some of my duty stations and units I served with
during my service are NAS, Jacksonville, FL; Station Brig, Cherry Point, NC; MP Co, 2ndMarDiv;
Stable Able One Seven; George Three Two; Easy Two Two; Security Det, Kaneohe, Terr of Hawaii;
I&I Staff, 35th Special Infantry Co., Santa Rosa, CA: Charlie Co., 3rd Recon Bn.; BaseMatBn, MCB,
Camp Lejeune, NC; MarDet, USS F D Roosevelt (CVA 42); arAirResTrngDet, NAS, Glenview, IL;
Marine Aircraft Group 36 (Helo), Phu Bia, Vietnam; One Eight; Hq, 8th Marines; Hq. 2nd Marines and
2nd Combat Engineer Bn. After retiring I earned two AAS degrees from the local community
college. Then worked as a Security Officer until I retired fully. My interest are or has been
competition shooting of the service rifle and service pistol ( Have two Bronze Medals won in Marine
Corps competition with the service pistol and once set the range record with both at Camp Schwab
on Okinawa), Stockcar racing (Now a fan but raced several years at Honolulu), fishing, amateur
radio (Hold call KB4OGI. Son Ed is KA4JQZ and I became a ham to chat with him) and geneaology.
Now strongly interested in contacting my old shipmates. Of particular interest now is Stable Able
One Seven (Korea era or 1955-57 when I was again in Able, by that time called Alpha company)
and Charlie Third Recon. Would enjoy hearing from any I have served with.
