Skinner's Poop Sheet May 2000
Yo Stable Able,
This year is moving right along and it won't be long before September is here. That'll be the time for you to pack your willy peter bag and lash it to your packboard and standby to move out for Las Vegas. Understand there will be more info in this newsletter on the reunion. Excitement grows and the troops are getting restless.
I received an Email from Eddie Arechiga after the last newsletter. He was pleasantly surprised to see "Skinhead" Graham was teaching in Victoria, TX. Eddie was born there and went to school there as a kid. He still has family there. Small world indeed Eddie.
George Blair and his bride had breakfast with Larry Pawelka on 10Jan00. Larry was feeling a lot better and looks fine. George and Christina's US Army captain son is due home from Korea this summer. George says his family should take up a homestead in Korea as his Dad was there after WWII and his two brothers were there in 52-53.
I called Larry after I received George's Email and he sounds great. Maybe he will make this year's reunion. Me miss ya Larry.
Also Heard from Bobby Licker and Charles McKeller. They are well and are keeping busy with the Battalion.
"Sparks" Janet, Able Six's radio/communicator, sends that Colonel Smith had a few days in the hospital recently due to a sugar drop but he is now back in battery. (Does this mean he's not as "Sweet" as he use to be Janet?). He was out in time to attend his 80th birthday party the staff of the MCRD Museum held for him. They had blown up picture posters of events from his career. A day or them to remember. Janet and Nate are looking forward to Las Vegas and they smile as they think back on how caring and warm everyone was at Rhode Island.
"30 Clip Onti" makes the poopsheet again. Since the last newsletter he went back into the hospital for an over night operation but complications arose and it took ten days for him to get well enough to go home. He brags on Mary Jane, she slept by his bedside on a recliner at the hospital and watched over him during the day. She's a real Marine he says. A salute to you Mary Jane!! He has some pain still that makes it uncomfortable to sit. I'll spare you the details as I figure Onti will regale you all with the story at Vegas.
George Norris checked out my web site and logged in, which I appreciate.
Shifty reports he had a telcon (telephone conversation) with Hilda Bell. They had a son, his wife and two children were visiting. It was a mad house but Ding Dong was enjoying it. Their son, Captain Doug and his wife had another child last December so now they have 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Fine business!! Also Hilda says they now have a computer and may get on the Internet soon. That'll be great.
We have quite a number of Stable Able with Email now. If you have faint heart on trying this mode just mount a bayonet lug on the front so you'll know which way to aim it. Think the "Immediate Action" in case of stoppages is the same for the BAR. Of course remember I ain't computer intelligent.
Well Stable Able, may God bless you and yours, our shipmates who will be forever young and their loved ones and our shipmates who have left this life since Korea and their loved ones.
Semper Fi!
Jim
